What is Bowen Therapy?

September 13, 2017

What is Bowen Therapy?

It’s a system of moves that challenges the soft tissue, releases its congestion and stimulates energy flow, it relieves pain and inflammation, and is an overall tonic to the body’s innate ability to heal itself.  It’s positive effects on nerve, muscle and connective tissue provides lasting relief from pain and misalignment in the simplest and most effective manner.  It relieves the bodies reactive patterns to injury, pain, physical and emotional trauma and misalignment through a series of relaxing and gentle moves on specific points on the body.  Bowen Therapy is easily performed through clothes so its simple for even the most severe pain sufferers to receive the therapy.  The most unique aspect of this therapy are the pauses.  2 minute breaks between sets of moves.  These breaks give the body time to respond, which is what makes Bowen Therapy so unique.

Trauma is trapped in the nerves, not the soft tissue.

The body heals when it is in a parasympathetic state, relaxed nervous system state.  It remains inflamed in its sympathetic state.  Bowen Therapy affects the autonomic nervous system, the system responsible for stress reactions such as fight or flight reaction, as well as the recovery response of the body.

What often happens is that the problems accumulate causing congestion and our self healing process becomes overloaded.  Bowen Therapy reminds the body to re-visit problems that haven’t fully resolved and have been accommodated in a response to injury, trauma, and dysfunction.  At the same time, Bowen Therapy effects the congestion of energy within the system.

The Bowen Therapy moves are very subtle, similar to playing a note on an instrument.  Each muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia or nerve will make its own note, its own vibration, Bowen Therapists just learn how to “play” that “note”.

There are many options for becoming a therapist, but you can also simply learn some of the basic techniques and use them to bring some relief to your clients as well.  You can find an actual classroom to be taught in, or you can go online to www.bowen-online.com

There you will find all the videos where Nathan Damonte, the teacher will walk you through each of the steps.

You can enroll for either the Bronze level where you will learn the foundation of Bowen Therapy and simple treatments for friends and family.

Silver is for working health professionals who want to add new skills to their existing base.

Gold is for those people who want to become a Certified Bowen Therapist, like myself.

Not a lot of people know what Bowen Therapy is, they think it is like massage. . . which is not the case.

As a Personal Trainer and someone who has had various accidents/painful experiences and trained various people specifically with back problems, I know how important this therapy is.
